Tina-cious Joyner-Kersee

One of the most awesome sports to watch is track. At least to me.

I think that the sheer POWER demonstrated by runners is awe inspiring. You are relying on no one. Just pure strength and will. YOUR strength and will... and yours alone.

....well, unless you run relays but when I saw people dropping batons at the olympics my heart broke to a million pieces... I don't like relays :P...

Watching a lone runner pull out ahead of the pack and fly around a track is so utterly impressive to me.

I'm so sad that Krístie no longer runs track. I LOVED watching her run. It was both exciting and nerve-wracking to me. But I loved every second of it.

Partially because I love to see her run with those long giraffe legs (lol) and partially because it brings me back.

It brings me back to the days before I even had Krístie and I used to run. I remember the wind in my hair and the feelings of the muscles in my legs carrying me faster than even I thought they could go.

To the days when people would look me in the face and discount me as a threat before a race then soon realize they only ever saw the back of my head the rest of the race.

To the days of being midway through a race having general chit chat with a fellow friend/runner then say "goodbye" and leave them in roughly the same location while I finished the race.

The feeling of flying without leaving the ground.

I miss it.

Of course it was grumpy granny's entry the other day about going back to her love of swimming that got me thinking about what I missed.

And now that I'm about half way to my goal weight (oh yeah, by the way, I've lost nearly 30 lbs :P) -- I think I'm going to be setting my sights on getting back to running (yes, Beck, I realize how dangerous it is to say that within "ear shot" of you LOL).

So. I've updated my "34 things to do before I die" list over there in my sidebar. I now have 36 things to do.

Looks like I can't die any time soon.

(¯`·.¤ Follow Fridays ¤.·´¯)

Ok, so I KNEW I would forget to do these! I'm gonna call these "Follow Fridays" (like on Twitter) so that you can find new people to follow too. :) And iffen I make them on Fridays MAYBE I'll remember to do them on Fridays.
8th Day Planner is an awesome lesbian, mom, blogger that I read.

Her recent post about the story her daughter's friend wrote was just so sweet it made my teeth hurt!

Just typical of her entries, really. :)

Check her out here.

I can't wait to see you run baby! I know you can get right back into it. I volunteer to be your practice competitor ;)

Just let me know when you're ready to start!

I am so proud of your weight loss! That's a huge accomplishment, seriously. You look amazing. :)

"You may not know it by looking at me? But I can run like the wind blows." (That's a Forrest Gump quote, just in case I'm the only geek who loves that movie)

Congrats on your weight loss! And I feel the same way about running. I ran track from age 8 all the way up until I got out of the army at age 25. Unfortunately, running six miles every day at a snail's pace gave me bad knees and hips so now all I can do is granny shuffle which is kind of embarassing so I don't do it in public.

@GREG: Thanks!!

@Jessie: Thx baby. I may take you up on that. LOL

@Elle: LOL! I can only remember the standard taglines (my movie quoting skills have been slipping as of late!) Thx! Hopefully my 36-year-old joints can take it! lol

First of all, major kudos on the weight loss! I did read your "skinny" blog and was inspired by it. I also noted your comment on my post about how you loved running. Personally, I can't do it. It literally hurts me too much, all over, knees, boobs, lungs, everything. I've tried over the years, and it NEVER gets easier--sort of like climbing stairs. But, as you know, I can walk for HUNDREDS of miles! ;-)

I hope you start running soon. As a boss of mine once said, "Ain't nothing to it but to do it!" I'll be looking for flying photos of you!!

Hugs,
GG

Well done losing all that weight! I bet you feel great, in more ways than one! Oops. :D

Good luck with the running too. I admire anyone who has goals!

Both my girls ran track this year. So I thought is would be a good goal for me to be able to jog one mile. My youngest went with me. I was huffing and puffing thinking I was really moving when I discovered she was WALKING next to me. That was my first and last attempt.

Congrats on the weight loss. Did you do that by eating those Cool Whip sandwiches? I bought a thing of Cool Whip to try them but wound up eating the frozen whole tub in one sitting. (after I mixed in a bunch of chocolate chips). No hope for me.

Thanks for the shout out. And thanks Greg for your kind comment too.

We joined the community center and I have been on the treadmill for an hour each day for about 2 months. I FINALLY can jog about a mile again. My goal is to do a 5k with the daughter this fall. Congrats on the weight loss!

You rock. Gorgeous to start with, of course, weight loss not withstanding.

I dig the new blog format. And I feel like I've been out of the loop for about a month. ;)

Everybody I know (me included) is just getting healthier and healthier, and it makes me wanna dance for joy!

...and by the way, I don't know exactly what your doing to loose weight, but you look fantastic. I DO NOT have your will power.
